The Ram 2500 and 3500 models share many common traits, but shoppers need to understand the differences. This comparison is designed to you decide which Ram pickup is right for your needs.
There are many ways to enjoy the Ram 2500 and 3500 models. Ten trim levels are offered, making it possible for shoppers to find a truck that seems customized for their lifestyle and personality. The Ram PowerWagon is a 2500 special edition with advanced four-wheeling capability. It’s considered the most capable off-road production pickup. As for beds and cabins, there are also four configurations. These include a regular cab with the 8-foot large bed, a double cab with the large or 6-foot-4 medium bed, and the Mega Cab with the medium bed. Mega Cabs are considered especially large in this class, and you will find SUV-like comforts on both rows.
There are two ways to power these two editions, but you have three choices overall. The 2018 Ram 2500 standard engine is a smart V8. It produces 383 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. Given the 2500’s extra-strength build, this may be all you need to get your work jobs done. If you need a bit more, you can step up to the 6.4-liter on either the 2500 or the 3500. This engine generates 410 hp and 429 lb.-ft. of torque. As you can imagine, either the 2500 or 3500 may be strong enough to complete any task you assign it. This V8 also benefits from cylinder deactivation, a system that helps it reduce fuel use when conditions are right. The 2500 claims best-in-class tow ratings for a gas-powered engine. The 2500 Hemi V8 is rated for 16,000 pounds. If neither of these gas engines fit your needs, the new 2018 Ram 3500 diesel should do it. This High-Output turbo diesel has been revised to offer 930 lb.-ft. of torque, beating all rivals. It can now tow more than 31,000 pounds with a gooseneck hitch. It has best-in-class fifth wheel towing rated at 30,000 pounds. Conventional towing is rated 20,000 pounds. You really can’t go wrong with any of these choices. Ram heavy duty trucks are built to withstand load pressures and remain stable under difficult conditions.

The new 2018 Ram Harvest is one of two new editions available in 2500 and 3500 editions. As its name implies, this new truck serves the farming community. Although other colors are offered, Ram paint choices can match New Holland or Case IH farm equipment. Farmers will appreciate helpful extras like the all-new bed step. Four-wheeler equipment includes skid plates to help the truck avoid damaging debris. Higher ground clearance helps the truck rise above tall grasses and other impediments. For those who like luxury living, the two Rams are offering a Limited Tungsten edition. It has an even ritzier interior than the regular Limited. Both have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as part of the 8.4-inch touchscreen system.
